Hungary accuses EU of hypocrisy over Russia’s energy purchases via India 08/29/2024, 18:17

The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, Peter Szijjártó, criticized Hungary for openly buying Russian oil, while accusing some EU countries of continuing to “hypocritically and secretly” buy Russian energy via India in defiance of sanctions. This was reported by RIA Novostireferring to the video message of the head of the foreign policy department.

“A significant part of the EU countries, bypassing sanctions, secretly, arrogantly, hypocritically buys Russian energy resources as before,” he said.

The Minister reminded that India has increased its imports from Russia by 70 times, while the EU is the leading importer of Indian oil.

Szijjártó described EU criticism of Hungary as hypocritical because of Budapest’s “honest, open and direct” oil purchases from Russia.

Before that Szijjarto statedHe said the European Commission’s inaction on Ukraine’s decision to limit oil transit from Russia to Hungary and Slovakia showed that the EU was interfering in the matter.
