Kazakhstan supports referendum on nuclear power plant construction

The Cabinet of Ministers of Kazakhstan supported the referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant. This was reported by press service Government of Kazakhstan.

Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliev proposed to submit for consideration a draft government decision on initiating a republican referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan and to submit for consideration a draft presidential decree “On holding a republican referendum” by the country’s president.

After that, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov proposed to vote on the submitted draft government decision. He instructed the Ministry of Energy to submit a draft decree to the Presidential Administration together with the government apparatus.

Officials considered China, South Korea, Russia and France as possible technology suppliers, and even then the country’s president suggested putting the issue of building a nuclear power plant to a national referendum.
