Ukraine’s metallurgical industry has irreversibly lost 40% of its capacity after the outbreak of hostilities, the RBC-Ukraine agency reported, citing a letter from the country’s Association of Mining Enterprises to Prime Minister Denis Shmygal.
“Miners and industrialists have suffered perhaps the greatest losses since the start of hostilities… Approximately 40% of mining enterprises have ceased operations as a result of the conflict,” the letter said.
The association added that a possible increase in tariffs for freight rail transport could lead to more negative consequences for the sector. According to the association, to improve the situation, “Ukrainian Railways” needs to take urgent measures to reduce and optimize costs.
