“Queen of marathons” blogger Elena Blinovskaya may be released from pre-trial detention and the criminal case may be closed after the full payment of Blinovskaya’s debt to the tax authorities. In this regard TASS said the defendant’s lawyer Natalia Salnikova.
“The law says that the person who committed the crime for the first time and paid the damage in full has the right to file a petition to terminate the criminal prosecution on charges of tax evasion (TCK Article 198, Part 2 of the Russian Federation),” Salnikova said.
On Wednesday, July 24, the Moscow City Court extended the detention of the “marathon queen” for a month.
Before that, Blinovskaya’s lawyer Bulat Soltakhanov statedIt was stated that the statute of limitations for the crime of large-scale tax evasion, which was accused against the blogger, had expired.
Blinovskaya was detained in April 2023 on charges of tax evasion in a particularly large amount, namely 918 million rubles. Later, the “marathon queen” was also charged with two counts of money smuggling. As a result, the blogger was sent to a pre-trial detention center. According to the court decision, her detention will continue until July 26.
