EU launches mechanism to seize assets of Russian companies 07:51

As part of the 14th sanctions package against the Russian Federation, the European Union introduced a legal mechanism that allows the seizure of assets of Russian companies. writes about this RBC.

It is stated that this measure will be a response to Russia’s counter-sanctions, such as the temporary administration of subsidiaries of European organizations (Fortum, Carlsberg) and the seizure of assets in Russia of EU companies due to their failure to fulfill their obligations and imposed restrictions.

The new procedure, introduced as part of the 14th sanctions package, gives EU citizens and European businesses the right to seize possible assets of Russian companies in the EU.

Lawyers interviewed by RBC noted that although they do not expect class-action lawsuits to be filed in European courts, businesses in EU countries will turn to such a legal mechanism. Experts warn that if such court decisions confirming penalties are obtained, European companies may appeal to third country courts.

Previously at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs statedIt is stated that Russia is considering responding to Western sanctions.
