The definition of the word “laziness” in the explanatory dictionary is as follows: “Laziness is a character trait of a person, expressed in the lack of hard work.”
When a person is called lazy, it means that it will be difficult for him to achieve success in life. After all, you need to take action and work to get results. However, there are a significant number of examples of lazy behavior among famous people who are considered successful.
Leonardo da Vinci was famous for completing long-term salaried jobs only under the threat of returning the money. A typical example of a procrastinator.
Charles Darwin was able to work intensively for no more than an hour a day, from 8am to 9am. Then he lay down on the sofa, as he was too lazy to read the newspaper on his own.
Emile Zola worked no more than three hours a day. “When I exceed that limit, I feel completely sick,” he said.
Leo Tolstoy wrote in his diaries that in the afternoon and evening he often “joked”, that is, was idle and lazy.
Agree, it is not so clear: how do openly lazy people achieve significant success in life? However, everything falls into place when we understand that lazy behavior is not just a result of not working hard.
What else, other than dislike of work, can cause procrastination and lying on the couch with a sandwich, instead of active sports or work?
The first factor is physical fatigue. It should not be forgotten here that you may feel exhausted and weak after having to row for three days without sleep or rest. Fatigue can accumulate, for example, as a result of many years of insomnia. Or it may be the result of intellectual overstrain.
The second possible cause is emotional fatigue. Laziness can arise due to chronic negative experiences. This type of burnout is becoming more common in the modern world. Therefore, it is important to learn to manage your emotional states. The first thing you need to do if you’re chronically stressed is to stop asking yourself how to improve your mood immediately. It is important to understand that the nervous system has inertia, that is, it has a habit of being in a state of tension. It’s important to give yourself time to change.
And at the same time, take responsibility for your emotional state, realizing that anxiety and irritation are a consequence not of life circumstances, but of the human interpretation of these conditions and readiness for them. As long as you think you’re nervous about the situation itself, you won’t be able to change your mind about it and you’ll remain anxious.
The third reason for laziness is fear of failure. We put things off until later because we’re afraid we won’t be able to complete them.
A person appears lazy even though he is not actually that way. Many people believe that any task must be completed, so they subconsciously postpone the start, fearing that it will fail. But it is clear that things can be abandoned. I do not encourage this and try to finish what I started myself. But this does not mean that this is not possible. Sometimes this happens for various reasons. So why not start long and complex projects because of this?
The next reason is fear of social condemnation. Sometimes people are so afraid of negative feedback about themselves that they choose to be lazy rather than take action. Moreover, although this attitude is heard everywhere: “You don’t have to please everyone.” Outside criticism is okay. These are just words people say when they are unhappy with something. So is it your responsibility to make sure everyone is happy with you all the time? So is this possible?
And in general, if someone, even your closest one, is disappointed in you, this is his business. Let him think more realistically and not be disappointed when someone does not meet his expectations.
