In May, China increased its flour and grain purchases from Russia by 2.9 times compared to the same period in 2023. This was reported by RIA News With reference to data from the PRC Statistical Service.
At the end of last month, the Chinese market received more than 141 thousand tons of grain and flour from the Russian Federation. In monetary terms, the supply amounted to 33 million dollars.
The main share of China’s imports was occupied by barley with about 80 thousand tons worth 19 million dollars. Then comes wheat and meslin (28 thousand tons worth $7 million), oats (21 thousand tons worth $4.8 million).
Flour supply of the period was 10.5 thousand tons with 3.4 million dollars, and grain and whole wheat flour supply was 1.9 thousand tons with 511 thousand dollars.
In total, in the January-May period, China imported 653 thousand tons of Russian grain worth 159 million dollars. This is 4.6 times more than in the first five months of last year.
