The exit from the external service market for contactless payments for purchases made from smartphones does not cause any problems for Sber customers using SberPay. This was stated by the bank’s press service, commenting on information about the termination of the Samsung Pay payment service in Russia.
Sber noted that the changes taking place in the country and the world gave the company additional impetus to develop its own payment technologies.
The bank announced that the company began developing the SberPay family of payment methods in 2019 and later also offered to make purchases using a QR code.
“When Western services became unavailable in the country at the beginning of 2022, Sber already had a number of solutions that we started working on with new energy. And already in 2022, we have restarted the SberPay NFC service on our own technological solution, returning to Android users the usual ability to pay by smartphone,” the company recalled.
For Android smartphones, paying with SberPay using NFC technology allows you to make purchases with one touch on the phone. You can also start SberPay in advance, save the store’s loyalty card barcode and show it at checkout, and check the card balance at checkout. The bank reported that the number of daily transactions using the service has already exceeded 3.5 million.
Today SberPay includes several payment methods: one-click payment on the Internet without entering card details, payment using the Sber QR code, payment by Android smartphone in offline stores and payment with a smile.
The company also stated that it provides payment services with Sber QR code to other banks, and 13 financial institutions have already participated in this service.
In 2023, the turnover of payments via Sber QR increased more than 4 times, and the number of transactions increased 6 times. The number of customers who started using the Sber QR code payment service has increased more than 3 times and now exceeds 10 million monthly unique users.
Sber announced his expectations that the popularity of payments using QR codes will increase, as in 2022 after the departure of the main players in payment by phone, ApplePay and GooglePay.
The company reported that more than 40 million Russians pay for purchases using SberPay every month.
It was previously known that the payment service Samsung Pay stops Work in Russia from April 3.
