According to him, in Moldova “there is a question of where to buy gas, the only question is the price.”
Today, 80% of Moldova’s electricity needs are met by the operation of a provincial power plant in Transnistria. The power plant produces electricity from Russian gas, and if its operation stops, it is inevitable that there will be an energy shortage in the country. As a backup option, Moldova is considering the possibility of purchasing electricity from Romania and Ukraine, but according to Sandu, it will take a year or a year and a half to resolve this issue.
On February 3, Moldova promised to ensure Transnistria with gas when transit through Ukraine was stopped.
