Lawyer-scientist of the Russian Academy of Sciences gave more than 6.6 million rubles to fraudsters

Lawyer Lev Klebanov, senior researcher in the criminal law and criminology sector at the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences, author of a scientific study on crimes against commercial, tax and banking secrets, became a victim of financial fraudsters. Before the New Year break, the professor received a voice message via telegram from a former colleague at the university. The message claimed that Klebanov was called by the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education and Science. The answer to the question “Why” was “I don’t know.”

“The man actually searched for such a person on Google and called him from the reception, but the secretary said that the boss was in a meeting. And he asked me to wait.
The lawyer-scientist was still waiting to be called back. And indeed there was an official; just a fake official,” the post says.

As Mash wrote, Klebanov became a victim of Ukrainian hackers who transferred money to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Fraudsters “hacked the website of the Ministry of Education and Science” and took loans “in the name of scientists, including Klebanov.” More than 6.6 million rubles were spent on the fraudsters’ “safe” account.
