Russians traded dollars more often than euros in 2023

In 2023, Russians exchanged currency more often at bank branches rather than through mobile apps and online banking; 85% of transactions took place in offices and 15% over the internet. These statistics were provided by the press service of Russian Standard Bank at the request of socialbites.ca after analyzing customer transactions.

Currency exchanges in offices also lead in terms of total conversion amount last year – 63% versus 37% online. Russians exchanged dollars more frequently in 2023. According to the bank, the total number of currency conversions in the US last year was 2.4 times greater than the euro.

In bank branches, dollars and euros were sold more often than bought. The total number of offline dollar sales was 2% higher than purchases. And the euro rose by 34% respectively. And it turns out that the total number of non-cash sales of American currency online last year was twice as much as purchases. At the same time, the euro online, on the contrary, was bought noticeably more often than sold. Last year, the number of such purchases exceeded sales by 25%.

The overall average dollar bill of sales in 2023 was $702, while purchases were $1,180, according to the bank. At the same time, last year the average euro sales amount was 711 euros and the purchase was 2,260 euros.

The bank conducted the study in January 2024.
