Transnistria could lose up to $5 million as Moldova imposes tariffs on imports from the unrecognized republic. In this respect reports press service of the president of the unrecognized republic, Vadim Krasnoselsky.
According to the Prime Minister of the Republic Alexander Rosenberg, from January 1, 2024, a norm of the Moldovan Customs Code came into force, obliging Pridnestrovian importers to pay duties.
“The biggest losses are expected in milk, butter, cheese, eggs, sugar, pasta and confectionery, as well as household appliances,” the Prime Minister said.
He added that since August 2023, PMR businesses have already paid Moldova about 300 thousand dollars a month for customs clearance. This led to a decrease in the republic’s trade turnover by more than $ 100 million.
Additionally, Chisinau blocked the exports of many large enterprises from Transnistria. Rosenberg noted that for this reason, the PMR budget has a monthly deficit of approximately 92 thousand dollars.
December 10, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian statedThat the reintegration of Transnistria took place without negotiations.
