Between December 1, 2023 and December 20, 2023, the number of Russians purchasing Christmas tree balls increased by 14% compared to the same period last year. At the request of socialbites.ca, these statistics were provided by the press service of the Check Index resource of the OFD Platforms company.
Christmas balls have become the most popular Christmas tree decoration among Russians this year, despite the noticeable increase in their cost. The average price of Christmas tree balls this December was 379 rubles; this is 17% higher than last December. Tinsel was purchased 9% more often this year than last year. Its average price increased by 8% annually, reaching 192 rubles. During the period under review, the number of purchases of garlands increased by 5%, and their average price increased by 7% annually, reaching 529 rubles. Christmas tree stars were purchased 4% more often in December 2023 compared to December 2022. Their average price increased by 8% annually to 250 rubles.
Check Index experts note that after a 20-25% increase in November, the sales dynamics of New Year’s paraphernalia slowed down in December, recording an annual increase of about 5-8%.
“More than 50% of such purchases are made online (in November this figure exceeded 60%), mostly through marketplaces. Both this year and last year, Russians are more likely to purchase products from the economy segment (ready-made sets made of plastic base for a Christmas tree). Such products are leaders in the price category up to 1000 rubles. The source’s press service noted that the increase in the price of Christmas tree decorations was affected both by the imported component in the product (price of varnish, paint, etc.) and the seasonal nature of sales.
The study was conducted in December 2023, based on analysis of 55-57 million cash collections from more than 1.1 million online cash registers in Russia. The period considered was from December 1 to December 20, 2023 and 2022.
Previously, Russia’s main Christmas tree was located in the Cathedral Square of the Kremlin decorated 1.5 thousand toys and 1.2 km of garlands.
