According to the government agency’s website, Rosatom specialists have developed a unique rope cutting equipment for the Russian market.
It is stated that the equipment is intended for industrial dismantling, as well as for decommissioning of nuclear and radiation hazardous facilities.
As Rosatom clarifies, the production of the diamond wire machine in Russia will eliminate dependence on imported analogues and guarantee the availability on the market of not only the product itself, but also the components, as well as service and diagnostics.
According to Eduard Nikitin, director of nuclear hazardous waste disposal and radioactive waste management at TVEL JSC, the development and production of the prototype took about six months. Currently, the first of three samples of the diamond wire saw has been produced and durability tests are being carried out.
“We plan to conduct tests on radiation-contaminated equipment, conduct seasonal tests in the winter, and then proceed to mass production of diamond wire saws, taking into account the individual wishes of customers. “Russian-made diamond wire saws will become an analogue and profitable alternative to wire saws of foreign brands that have been withdrawn from the market,” he said.
It was noted that the diamond rope machine was developed for import substitution within the framework of the R&D studies of Rosatom’s TVEL Fuel Company, the integrator of the Russian nuclear industry in decommissioning nuclear facilities.
As experts of the state agency explain, the main technological advantage of diamond wire saws is the ability to chop large areas of steel and reinforced concrete structures of any configuration. At the same time, electric drives and pneumatic tensioning system provide incomparably longer service life, ease of maintenance and productivity compared to hydraulic machines.
The design of the machine developed by Rosatom includes programmable electronics with extended functionality for the operator. Wire saws can be designed and manufactured to suit the customer’s tasks and dimensions, and can also be equipped with special accessories and modules. A diamond saw cuts a concrete slab reinforced with metal pipes in literally 10 minutes.
