Austria’s oil and gas utility OMV is seeking measures to diversify supplies, even though it continues to buy excessive amounts of natural gas from Gazprom. This was reported by TASS Referring to the words of Alfred Stern, head of the OMV concern.

As the senior manager noted, measures have been taken to diversify supplies in case transit through Ukrainian territory stops after 2024. Thus, as Stern emphasized in an interview, the pipeline capacity necessary to obtain gas from alternative sources was reserved.

OMV’s main diversification tools are increasing its own production, entering into contracts with Equinor and BP, long-term agreements with Italy and purchasing LNG. Tanks for storing blue fuel have also been strengthened in Austria. According to the source, the company has the opportunity to completely reject supplies from the Russian Federation and switch to alternative suppliers at any time.
