Rosneft has created a Competence Center for the study of carbonate hydrocarbon deposits on the basis of its research and design unit. The company’s press service reports this.

“The professional community brings together more than 300 experts from 22 mining enterprises and 9 corporate science institutes,” the statement said.

It was noted that the expert center will develop innovative methods for determining the properties of carbonate reservoirs based on seismic facies, petrophysical and geological-hydrodynamic modelling.

Additionally, the new competence center will facilitate rapid exchange of information. It is planned that the use of the latest technologies in the exploration and development of deposits will lead to a further increase in production volumes in the fields where carbonate reservoirs are located.

Let us recall that Rosneft produces hydrocarbons from carbonate formations at significant assets in Eastern Siberia and the Volga-Ural oil and gas region. The importance of in-depth geological study and the creation of advanced techniques is due to the significant production potential of such deposits. Recoverable oil reserves in carbonate reservoirs are estimated at 2.8 billion tonnes, accounting for 21% of the company’s reserves.
