The Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture expects the European Commission to extend the ban on imports of agricultural products to EU countries bordering Ukraine until at least the end of 2023. It has been reported DEA News.
“Hungary … considers it important to extend the EU restriction on imports to countries bordering Ukraine, applied until 15 September 2023, at least until the end of the year,” the message said.
The Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture noted that the country allows the passage of Ukrainian grain, as before.
On 15 July, authorities from Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland and Slovakia reportedly requested the European Commission to extend the ban on imports of agricultural products from Ukraine. This was expressed by the head of the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture, Istvan Nagy.
According to him, Hungarian farmers received compensation of 15.93 million euros from the European Union, “a symbolic amount compared to the amount of damage”.
