Bloomberg: EU developed a plan to buy Russian gas without violating sanctions

The European Union will offer gas importers a solution that will allow them not to violate sanctions when purchasing Russian fuel, and to “effectively meet” Russian President Vladimir Putin’s payment requirements in rubles. Bloombergciting the source.

According to the publication, the European Commission will require companies to make it clear that they have fulfilled their obligations when making payments in euros or dollars under existing contracts. In a closed meeting, the EU executive body told governments that the leadership did not prevent companies from opening accounts at Gazprombank and gave permission to purchase gas in accordance with the sanctions.

“Another important point is that once European companies have made a payment in euros or dollars and declared that they have fulfilled their obligations, no further action by Russia regarding the payment is required,” explains Bloomberg.

Previously, the European Commission plans to let governments will limit gas prices for consumers if supplies from Russia are cut off.
