To date, Russian fishing companies have exhausted the existing limits on subsidies for the transport of fish from the Far East to the center of the country. Fish prices may rise in the domestic market if the authorities do not provide new assistance to the shippers, informs The newspaper Kommersant, which refers to the corresponding letter written by Alexei Buglak, president of the Pollock Miners’ Association (ADM), to Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko and industrial companies.
We are talking about a program that subsidizes the rail transport of frozen pollock and fillets. Russian authorities launched it in 2021, one of the main reasons for this was logistical difficulties in delivering fish to China amid pandemic restrictions. However, at the moment, the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation (Ministry of Agriculture) has suspended this program due to the exhaustion of subsidy limits, the article states.
“Transportation of pollock from the Far East to the center costs an average of 20 rubles. For 1 kg – 20-25% of the selling price of frozen pollock, that is, a tariff subsidy of 6 rubles. 1 kg of fish has a positive effect on the cost of fish in the domestic market. However, the Ministry of Agriculture has suspended the approval of transport applications due to running out of limits. <....> An increase in the cost of transporting pollock will affect the final price of the fish, which can lead to reduced demand,” he says.
17 May Vedomosti newspaper knowledgeableChanges to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) Customs Code may lead to an increase in the cost of fish in Russia. If Russian fishermen catch fish in areas with international agreements, but these are not considered EAEU products, the price of finished products will increase.
