Toilet paper prices have skyrocketed in Poland and the product may disappear from store shelves entirely due to new European Union (EU) regulations. In this respect informs Radio ESKA.
Toilet paper in Poland may soon be completely out of stores. This may be due to new EU rules, namely the so-called regulation of supply chains that do not cause deforestation. The thing is, companies will be asked to record the geographic coordinates of the regions where the goods they put on the market are produced.
The publication noted that new manufacturers of toilet paper have already appeared, producing goods from alternative raw materials. For example, bamboo production started. However, this paper is much more expensive than regular paper.
Market experts thought toilet paper would become cheaper for consumers. In addition, the price of waste paper may increase as the demand for alternatives increases. The EU itself gives about 18 months for a transition period for small companies and two years for large organisations.
At the beginning of March, the Interia portal reportedIn Poland, the cost of toilet paper rose sharply by 50% during the year due to the impact of anti-Russian sanctions. Manufacturers attribute it to disrupted supply chains as a result of the sanctions and rising gas prices for paper production.
