Belarus plans to connect to the Chinese UnionPay payment system in the near future. About this on the broadcast of the TV channel “Belarus 1” declaration Yuri Seliverstov, Head of the Ministry of Finance of the country.

“We are working on connecting to Chinese systems and it will be completed soon,” the minister said.

The head of the Ministry of Finance of Belarus did not specify an exact deadline for completing the work. According to him, working with UnionPay will speed up transactions, the return of revenues and tax revenues to the budget.

Seliverstov said that Belarus often does business with the Chinese side in yuan. In his opinion, it is convenient to exchange and repay the lender’s loans in his own currency.

Belarusian banks began to cooperate with UnionPay in 2011. As of August 2021, cards of this payment system are accepted in 65% of ATMs and terminals in Belarus.
