The ban on trucks from non-EU countries passing through the Kozlovichi-Kukuryki checkpoint on the Belarus-Polish border from Poland and Lithuania’s increased control over trucks from third countries on the Polish border will not affect the delivery of goods to Russia. It has been reported TASS with reference to the participants of the international cargo transport market.
According to Ivan Golovko, head of international transport at Noytech Supply Chain Solutions, under the current conditions, routes through Turkey and Finland remain viable options for delivery of goods by road to Russia.
According to him, for those using delivery via Poland and Lithuania, these routes will not be economically beneficial. He explained that the route through Finland would be three to four days longer and 30-40% more expensive, and a few weeks longer and at least 50-70% more expensive via Turkey.
He named another option for cargo transportation as transport by rail. At the same time, he noted that in this case, the transport of “temperature and groupage cargo” would be impossible.
On February 9, Polish authorities decided to close the Belarus border crossing in Bobrovniki. The Belarusian side protested the Polish side about such a decision. On February 25, Giedrius Mishutis, representative of the State Border Guard Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania declaration about the inability to quickly eliminate or reduce the queues of trucks at the entrance to Belarus, where more than 1 thousand trucks previously accumulated.
