At least five million people have lost their jobs since the outbreak of hostilities in the country, said Tatyana Berezhnaya, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine. She talked about it at the Polish-Ukrainian economic forum. Berezhnaya’s words appear on the ministry’s website.
Deputy Minister of Economy noted that Kiev expects support from partners for the implementation of social programs for the restoration of the country and the return of citizens of Ukraine. According to him, the labor market in Ukraine continues to collapse due to conflicts. Berezhnaya emphasized that “unemployment has increased significantly” in the country.
“The struggle continues where 10 million people are employed. At least 5 million people lost their jobs. Hundreds of workers died in the conflict. About 7 million people have already left the country because of the conflicts,” he said.
According to the deputy head of the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ukrainian authorities have launched several programs to stabilize the labor market and the economy. He said this could include affordable lending and grant support for businesses, as well as attracting unemployed citizens to public works and moving companies “from dangerous areas to relatively safe ones.”
Berezhnaya admitted that Kiev plans to repatriate all its citizens who left the country due to the conflict.
