Deciphering the Military Registration Specialty (VUS) has been one of the hot topics of recent days. And one of the most common categories is military drivers. Let’s clarify what drivers do in the military.
We note right away that not all VUS are amenable to detailed decryption.
Professions related to cars and other wheeled vehicles are mainly described by one of two options for the first three digits of the code: 837 or 838. But not only them.
Here are some examples (the first three digits of the code):
- 837 – drivers of vehicles of category BC;
- 838 – specializations in military equipment management;
- 849 – commanders of the repair department, specialists in the repair and storage of vehicles – mechanics;
- 841 – drivers of floating cars;
- 854 – tractor drivers.
Obviously, military drivers can drive not only a car, but also armored vehicles, as well as special equipment, railway trains, and even underwater and surface craft.
A few more full designations (all digits of the code) of the driver’s VUS:
- 124259 – APC driver;
- 157259 – engineer of an anti-aircraft installation;
- 167259 642 – driver – radio operator;
- 180994 – excavator driver.

Driver Responsibilities (AC)
- Know the device, the operating rules and the maintenance of the vehicle.
- You can drive day and night, at any time of the year, in all weather conditions.
- Carry out timely maintenance, repair and adjustment of the engine and special equipment with which the car is equipped.

Responsibilities of a wheeled armored personnel carrier driver
- Know the equipment, operating rules and maintenance of the armored personnel carrier.
- Skillfully ride it day and night, any time of the year, in a variety of combat and weather conditions.
- Know and obey the established traffic rules and signals.
- Carry out timely and efficient maintenance, repair and adjustment of the engine and auxiliary equipment of the armored personnel carrier.
- Know the armament of armored personnel carriers, able to load and fire from a machine gun.
- Ability to control a radio station and intercom.
- Own a personal weapon, skillfully use it for self-defense and, if necessary, to protect a combat-ready vehicle and crew members.

The excavator operator should know:
- technical characteristics and rules for adjusting the excavator, its mechanical, hydraulic and electrical equipment, methods of troubleshooting the excavator;
- rules for excavating soil of different categories in accordance with specified profiles and markings;
- the procedure for preparing the excavator for transport, loading it on a vehicle, securing it;
- safety requirements during transport;
- unloading techniques from the vehicle to the workplace.
