Learning to drive in old age is much more difficult, but it is not prohibited by law. Vadim Kuzovkin, director of the Redauto driving school, talked about this in a conversation with the socialbites.ca correspondent.
“As a rule, the fact that the driver candidate is under the age of 65 does not affect his driving ability in any way and he can easily get a driver’s license. But the elderly must undergo an additional medical examination. If it confirms that you have no contraindications to driving, you can attend a driving school or renew your license. But it is worth noting that senior citizens rarely come to get a license. If they decide to come anyway, no one at the driving school can dissuade them. However, training cannot be done without a doctor’s opinion,” explained the automobile expert.
Kuzovkin noted that learning to drive after age 65 is much more difficult than at a younger age. This situation occurs especially due to the slowing down of the reaction rate. The expert added that many retirees refuse to drive, realizing that their health is deteriorating.
“I would not recommend driving after the age of 65. But in fact, age is not an indicator here – first of all, you should focus on your health. There are old people running, jumping and going to the gym. You can drive like this,” Kuzovkin summarized.
Yuri Konev, formerly a leading expert in gerontology and geriatrics statedThe age limit for driving should not exceed 75.
