In response, China’s Ministry of Commerce said the new steps would “seriously affect the atmosphere of bilateral cooperation” and criticized US measures.
Before that, it was known that Joe Biden signed The decree increases customs duties on a wide range of products imported from China ahead of the country’s upcoming presidential elections. Specifically, the US will increase the tariff rate on Chinese semiconductors from 25% to 50% by 2025. A new 25 percent tariff will also be applied to some rare earth minerals this year, while the same rate will be applied to natural graphite and magnets in 2026. Ship cranes will also face a new tariff of 25 percent in 2024.
