The German company Mercedes-Benz Group is responsible to its customers for the installation of emission control devices in vehicles. In this respect reports Bloomberg cites a court decision in Stuttgart, Germany.
It was noted that the case was filed three years ago by the consumer rights organization Verbraucherzentrale Bundesverband (VZBV), with the participation of 2.5 thousand people. A consumer group claims the automaker is manipulating diesel engine performance to underestimate emissions.
Vehicle owners must file individual lawsuits to receive compensation.
The Mercedes-Benz Group plans to appeal the court’s decision.
It happened before that knownGerman Federal Motor Transport Agency suspects BMW is involved in illegal methods of underreporting vehicle emissions.
A test of the BMW X3 crossover is given as an example. Thus, when the engine is running and the air conditioning system is turned off, harmful emissions into the atmosphere are lower than when it is turned on. It is stated that BMW used this method to influence the test results.
