Apple decided to close the project to develop its first fully autonomous electric car. The name of the project was Titan. In this respect reports Bloomberg.
According to the publication, Apple’s decision may have been influenced by the crisis in the automotive industry, which caused high inflation and a decrease in interest in expensive electric vehicles.
Project Titan was launched in 2014. Later, information emerged that Apple’s first ready-made cars would be released in 2024 or 2025. The company has also been looking for a partner to help launch electric car production for a long time. Hyundai and Kia were also among the potential partners. After some time, the company discussed the possibility of postponing the release to 2028.
2 thousand Apple employees worked on the Titan project, some of them, including quality engineers, will be laid off. It was assumed that the cost of the car would be 100 thousand dollars (9.2 million rubles at the exchange rate at the time of publication).
