Using used suspension, steering and brake parts to repair your vehicle could cause a serious accident. This was stated to socialbites.ca by Jan Heitzer, deputy chairman of the National Automobile Union (NAU).
“You cannot use used brake discs and hoses, pads, shock absorbers, springs, drives, steering rods to repair or renew your vehicle. All of these parts are subject to serious friction and wear and may have hidden defects that you may not notice. If the brake line bursts, you will hit another vehicle. If the connection is lost, the vehicle will roll over and you may be injured. Even a second-hand ABS sensor may not work properly and fail at the right time,” Heitzer said.
According to the expert, it is not recommended to install a used pump in a car. In case of jamming, the circulation of antifreeze in the cooling system will stop and the engine will boil. Ultimately, this could lead to a major overhaul of the engine.
Heitzer explained that it’s better to avoid repairing your car with used parts altogether. But if you don’t have enough money, you can limit yourself to spare parts that do not directly affect safety: body panels and interior parts.
