Smolin said he attended an unofficial event dedicated to Athletes’ Day on the evening of August 16. There, allegedly, one of the athletes offered him a drink very persistently, but the attendant refused, poured himself tea and felt a strange taste in his mouth.
The head of the Bichursky district drove home by car. The State Traffic Inspectorate was informed about his car waving suspiciously along the way. When the police stopped Smolin’s car, he refused to be examined and agreed to be tested at the local Central District Hospital. The official later said that these analyzes should not be trusted and promised to take them again in Ulan-Ude.
“My blood pressure skyrocketed. “My opponents, who used this situation for their own purposes, accused me of drinking and driving,” he said.
