Izvestia: Chinese companies may be involved in the production of Moskvich

Officials of Moscow, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and KamAZ are meeting with Chinese companies for the production of cars in an automobile factory that was vacated after Renault’s departure. The newspaper reports “News” with reference to sources.

According to publication sources, negotiations are underway, including JAC Motors, FAW and BYD, for the inclusion of one of the Chinese companies in the production of a new model, which will be produced under the Moskvich factory brand. The interview is scheduled to be completed – within two weeks, as the company’s refactoring process continues, a market source cites.

Haval, Chery and Geely said they are not negotiating for the Moskvich brand or the Renault factory.

Vitaliy Savelyev, Head of the Ministry of Transport of Russia saidthat the restarted Moskvich car will be powered by an electric motor. According to Denis Pak, director of the automotive industry and railway engineering department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, the production of passenger cars under a historical brand on the basis of the former Renault plant will begin in the current year.
