City authorities, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and KAMAZ are negotiating with carmakers from China over the production of cars at a Moscow factory that was abandoned after Renault left, Izvestia writes, citing sources in the market.
Top candidates include JAC Motors, FAW and BYD, but other companies from China are also taking part in the negotiations.
We are talking about using one of the Chinese car platforms for the new model, which will be produced under the brand name of the Moskvich plant itself (formerly Renault).
It is known that now that the Duster line is being dismantled at the factory, it will be transferred to Togliatti, where this model will be assembled under the Lada brand. The factory will soon be completely taken over by the Moscow government, and return will be impossible, the buy-back option only applies to the company in Togliatti.
Negotiations with Chinese partners should be completed within two weeks, everything will depend on the conditions, benefits, logistics capabilities for components, as it is clear that only SKD is available at first.
If no agreement is reached, KAMAZ itself takes over the production of cars. But the manufacturer does not have its own certified models in the passenger segment, so the wait will be long.
The production concept in Moskvich will be presented in the near future by the Moscow government together with KAMAZ.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, did not deny that negotiations were underway with the Chinese: “Yes, we are in talks. With multiple manufacturers at the same time. With what exactly, he did not specify.
