Turbo engine = oil burner and injection problems, and CVT = rapidly increased wear. These problems deter many buyers. As a result, a person buys not what he wants, but what corresponds to the stereotype of reliability.
But it is worth delving into the design features of the car, as the editor-in-chief of Za Rulem magazine, the oldest and most authoritative automotive publication in Russia, Maxim Kadakovwhile all fears disappear. Let’s take Moskvich 3 – a 150 hp turbocharged gasoline engine with a CVT.
Moskvich turbocharged engine
The expert is not campaigning for turbocharged engines, but this is what he wants to tell readers about Moskvich. The crossover engine has a simple distributed injection, and not direct, with which engines with turbines most often have problems.
With such an injection, you can even install HBO, says Maxim Kadakov. But even without HBO, the engine is quite economical, depending on average annual runs, with a consumption of 6.6 liters in mixed mode.
You can pour AI-92 gasoline into the Moskvi tank, but experts do not advise saving on a car in this way, but feeding the turbo engine is still more suitable for 95th gasoline.
In addition, the engine power was adapted to Russian tax law – a comfortable 149.6 hp. with a torque of 210 Nm. At the same time, its ecological class is fifth, which means that there are no restrictions on entering special ecological zones.
Moskvich variator
In addition to the mechanics, the settings of which Maxim Kadakov really liked, the Moskvich can also be equipped with a Punch VT3S CVT.
This unit is produced in a million units in China and installed on various models. Automakers are eagerly adopting it for a number of reasons.
First, the resource of the variator is about 200 thousand kilometers, which allows you to give an extended warranty on cars without the risk of breaking repairs.
Second, hydrotraThe Punch VT3S has no informant. It was replaced with a multi-plate clutch and did not fail. The hydraulics have become simpler and more durable, although the box is now less suitable for off-road use (but you don’t buy a crossover with front-wheel drive for it).
Thirdly, great interest from buyers in this variator. Spare parts for it literally cost a penny. And all of them have already been sold in Russia. So here are the prices:
- friction disc from Lintex – 450 rubles,
- a complete set of six pieces of friction discs – 2600 rubles,
- Bosch belt – 24-26 thousand rubles,
- filters – from 500 to 1500 rubles,
- a set of gaskets and seals – 3300 rubles.
If we imagine that 10 years have passed, and you choose a used Moskvich 3 with a CVT, the serviceability of which is questionable, the probable repair of the unit will not be a reason for a breakdown. Only to negotiate thousands for 30-40 rubles.
Read about other nice features of Moskvich 3 in the February issue of the magazine “Behind the wheel” – already on sale.
The material was prepared on the basis of the article by Maxim Kadakov, published in issue 2.2023 of the magazine “Behind the wheel”.
