When buying OSAGO through online services or by phone, a motorist can become a victim of scammers, without even realizing that they have bought a fake policy. There are quite a few divorce settlements for gullible and not very legally savvy citizens. Let’s talk about the most common.
Fake site. It is similar to the pages of well-known insurance companies or PCA, only the address is completely different. Such a source may offer the purchase of OSAGO policies from several companies at once. If a customer decides to take out an OSAGO policy at a “favorable price”, there is a high risk that he will just get a nice picture for a reasonable price. A policy purchased from such a fake insurance broker will be void.
Insurance without payments. In this simple form of deception, the customer is almost immediately told (or deliberately concealed) that one should not count on any compensation in the event of an accident. In fact, this is a piece of paper for the traffic police and does not protect the owner of the car in any way. The policy is not registered in the Unified Register of Insurers and in the event of an insured event, the victims will have to go to court to get compensation from the person responsible for the accident. The cost of such a document is almost a third lower than the real policy.
Telephone agreement. As a rule, those with an expired policy can fall for this trick. They are called with the proposal to take out a policy with another insurer at a substantial discount. After transferring the money, the client receives in return a beautifully colored piece of paper that looks like an OSAGO policy, but is in fact an ordinary counterfeit.
In order not to become a victim of fraudsters, the Central Bank recommends entering into an OSAGO agreement only through the PCA website or on the websites of well-known insurance companies, making sure that the page addresses are genuine. Well, or the old-fashioned way – in the office of the insurance company.
