Car owners in the US state of Massachusetts are facing expensive repairs after filling petrol cars with diesel without their knowledge. It turned out that at one of the Speedway network gas stations, a tanker truck driver had accidentally filled the gas station’s underground tank with diesel fuel instead of gasoline.
One of the affected drivers had to pay $1,500 to drain the car’s diesel fuel, flush the fuel lines, and replace the fuel filters and spark plugs. He will have to pay another $2,000 to replace a faulty catalytic converter.
To another driver who experienced an engine malfunction, the official dealer confirmed that the reason was refueling with diesel instead of petrol.
Speedway representatives said they would cover repair costs for cars that were filled with the wrong fuel. The exact number of injured drivers has not been disclosed.
