In October, Moscow Parking turned 10 years old – the state institution “Administrator of the Moscow Parking Space” (GKU “AMPP” or “Moscow Parking”) was founded on October 25, 2012.
In these 10 years, the city has changed for the better and become more comfortable for living and recreation. But let’s not be unfounded and give some interesting facts – some of them will surprise you.
Parking in Moscow is…
First, people. The number of employees of “Moscow Parking” today is 2.1 thousand people. These are controllers, including those with limited mobility. They manage paid parking, monitor the condition of the road infrastructure, signs and markings and also report incorrectly parked cars. They are also employees of special parking lots and service centers who help with paperwork, parking permits and profession. And of course drivers and tow truck technicians.
Tow truck drivers are trained and perform the work professionally.
Secondly, there are now 93.5 thousand places in paid parking zones on the streets of Moscow and 21.2 thousand places in parking spaces with a barrier, including intercept. As a result, motorists no longer park in 2-3 lanes.
If the parking rules are violated, cars will be towed to special parking spaces.
Thirdly, it should be noted that there are three types of city parking with a barrier – with an hourly rate (near various attractions: shops, shopping centers, parks, etc.), subscription (for the convenience of local residents) and interception (they are free, if the driver than at least two journeys on the metro, MCC or MCD). Some parking garages are mixed.
Fourth, there are 270 evacuators in the Moscow parking lot. By decision of the MADI or the traffic police, they move cars to special parking areas for parking violations, and also evacuate cars from accident sites. Since 2017, recovery vehicles have already assisted 7.5 thousand times in traffic accidents and emergencies. Incidentally, the number of evacuations has decreased by 25% compared to 2015. And the number of parking violations has decreased by 64% in 10 years.
Worthy Achievements
Fifth, after arranging the parking lots, the speed of traffic on the city’s roads increased by 12%. Not only personal cars of Muscovites and guests of the capital went, but also public transport, as well as emergency services rushing to help.
Sixth, the number of cars entering the Garden Ring has decreased by 25%. This means that a quarter of the people did not have to go to the center by car. As a result, the roads have become freer, the air is cleaner and the historic center is quieter. This made walking in Moscow more pleasant.
The streets of Moscow have become freer, cleaner and quieter.
Seventh, parking revenues increased 4.5 times. This means that they are now used 4.5 times more often. The principle – took a seat, left the car and forgot – is a thing of the past. If in the past a car took an average of 6 hours a day in a parking space, now it takes no more than 1 hour and 20 minutes (up to 1 hour in the center). This is enough to do their own thing and make room for other people.
Paying for parking and what money is spent on?
Eighth, today almost all parking sessions (99%) are paid through mobile devices – quickly and without queues – through a mobile application, SMS, personal account on the website parking.mos.ru and others. At the top is the application “Parking of Russia”, which allows you to pay not only in Moscow, but also in the Moscow and St. Petersburg region, and there are plans to connect other regions. At the same time, you can top up the parking bill via the fast payment system (FPS). In this case, the commission for transferring money is 8 times lower than that of mobile operators and will only decrease in the future. You can download Parking of Russia in the App Store, Google Play and AppGallery.
In the Parking of Russia application, you can top up your parking account through the SBP and correct errors made during the payment: change the start time, end time of parking, car number and/or zone.
Ninth, parking fees are not fixed for nothing, but to guarantee the availability of 10-15% of free parking spaces on the street. That is, there is constant monitoring of the congestion of parking spaces. This ensures that motorists find a parking space faster. Parking fees will be introduced where there is a high demand for parking spaces.

Tenthly, all the money from paid parking goes to the city budget, which finances the improvement of courtyards (5.5 thousand courtyards have been built in 5 years): the construction of new children’s and sports fields, the planting of lawns and flower beds, the construction of of squares and parking spaces, as well as grants for the installation of barriers (more than 2.5 thousand barriers were installed in 7 years).
- In the application “Parking Russia” you can now change the start time of parking.
