The Zetta project, an electric car initiative based in Togliatti, has been under development since 2013. According to updated plans, by 2020 through early 2021 the target was to manufacture vehicles in Togliatti with a price tag of around 550 thousand rubles. To kick off production, the entrepreneur Denis Shchurovsky, who led the effort, needed a 100 million ruble infusion from the Industry Development Fund of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, a pledge that ultimately did not materialize.
News about the denial of state investment first surfaced in September 2020. Reports indicated that the Industry Development Fund commission concluded the declared amount remained insufficient to industrialize the project and recommended that the initiators secure an investor to co-finance the venture. Russian Automobile later cited Telegram sources claiming that the project has been terminated due to the absence of a suitable investor.
The concept described is a compact two‑seater with overall dimensions of 3030 by 1760 by 1600 millimeters. Its structure combines a rigid frame with external fiberglass panels. The vehicle’s drive is electric on the front axle, with an all‑wheel‑drive version originally planned. The battery, a lithium‑ion pack manufactured in China, powers the system, offering an estimated driving range of about 180 kilometers on a full charge.
According to the source, only five Zetta units were completed over the entire lifetime of the project, along with a single unfinished frame. In its current status, the note asserts that the project no longer exists in its Russian form, but adds that Zetta electric vehicles may potentially resume elsewhere beyond Russia in the future.
- Meanwhile, the Moscow‑based startup Electric Vehicles Manufacturing Rus is preparing to roll out the first 100 commercial electric EVM Pro trucks built on a UAZ Profi chassis within the year.
