AvtoVAZ chief Maxim Sokolov explained that the delivery disruption stems from a large set of auto components being blocked for shipments today. Experts from Avtostat estimate the current number of XRAY hatchbacks in Russia.

As of the latest data available, registration figures show that around 159,100 XRAY models (including the Cross variant) were registered in Russia up to July 1, 2022. In the months of July and August, buyers purchased roughly 833 new hatchbacks. By mid‑September, approximately 500 XRAY units remained unsold at dealer networks across the country. Projections for year‑end figures suggested a total XRAY count just above 160,000 in Russia. These numbers reflect the market conditions and distributor inventory observed over the latter half of 2022. (Source: Avtostat referring to AvtoVAZ)

The XRAY model lineup in Russia is concentrated in a handful of regions, with a fourth of the park located in five key areas:

  • Tatarstan — about 6.6% of XRAYs
  • Bashkortostan — around 5.8%
  • Samara Oblast — near 5%
  • Sverdlovsk Oblast — roughly 4.1%
  • Chelyabinsk Oblast — about 4%

Nearly half of the XRAYs were manufactured in 2017 and 2018. Roughly 75% of the models are equipped with a 1.6‑liter engine producing 106 horsepower, while the remaining 26.5% feature a 1.8‑liter engine delivering 122 horsepower. About 14% employ a continuously variable transmission or a robotic unit, with more than 86% offering a manual gearbox. These engine and gearbox distributions illustrate the broad mix of configurations available within the XRAY family across the Russian market, reflecting consumer preferences and local tax and regulation influences.
