A regional update from the emergency ministry’s Telegram channel confirms that heavy vehicle movement along the Georgian Military Road in North Ossetia–Alania was temporarily halted because the weather had deteriorated. The advisory highlighted unsafe travel conditions and the need to protect travelers from hazards along this highland corridor.

Forecasts indicated that conditions would worsen across the border in Georgia, with gusting winds and reduced visibility complicating travel on the road’s more exposed sections.

Officials explained that safe passage could not be guaranteed and, following recommendations from the Georgian border police, the Vladikavkaz–Lars section was closed to heavy vehicles. The restriction applies to the segment leaving the Russian Federation and was put into effect at 8:20 am Moscow time, with a plan to lift the measure only after a formal order is issued.

Historically, the Georgian Military Highway serves as the only land route linking Russia and Georgia, traversing the Verkhniy Lars border checkpoint and connecting Vladikavkaz with Tbilisi. The current closure affects commercial traffic and regional journeys that rely on this corridor.

On 17 October, movement on the Crimean Bridge was halted for all road transport. Drivers reported that no explanation for the restriction had been provided.

Earlier, Crimea suspended suburban trains on the Feodosia–Vladislavovka line, impacting local passenger service.

Travel planners and truck operators are advised to monitor official updates, prepare for possible detours, and adjust schedules when adverse weather alerts are in effect.
