A resident of the Voronezh region was sentenced to two and a half years in a penal colony after assaulting two traffic police inspectors during an investigation into her husband’s alleged drunkenness. The information comes from the press service of the Bobrovsky District Court.
The incident unfolded in the city of Bobrov at the end of May in 2023 and involved tension between a married couple and officers from the regional traffic police. The defendant, identified as SV Belyaeva, reportedly became agitated while the officers were gathering administrative materials concerning suspected drunken driving by her husband, Citizen B.
According to the court, during the proceedings the defendant struck the officers in the face, causing physical pain to both of them. The court noted that the actions demonstrated a clear intent to harm those serving in government enforcement duties within the Bobrovsky district of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The verdict stated that this conduct was an attack on public officials performing their official functions.
As a result, Belyaeva was sentenced to two years and six months in a general regime penal colony under Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. She remained in custody at the courthouse following the ruling.
In related news, a separate incident in St. Petersburg involved a collision with a traffic police patrol vehicle that left two officers hospitalized. While not connected to the present case, it underscores ongoing concerns about road safety and the safety of law enforcement personnel in such operations.
