Volkswagen has begun selling the updated eighth-generation Golf, introducing a special edition to celebrate the model’s 50th anniversary. The news comes from the German automaker’s press service.

In Germany, the Golf hatchback starts at 27.2 thousand euros, while the Variant station wagon begins at 28.3 thousand euros. These prices reflect the current market at the time of reporting and translate to roughly 2.7 million and 2.8 million rubles, respectively, based on the exchange rate then in effect.

The 50th anniversary edition, named Golf Edition 50, distinguishes itself with a set of unique styling cues. It rolls on distinctive 18-inch wheels, features tinted rear glass, an illuminated radiator grille, a black headliner, specialized pedal covers, and emblems that proudly display the number “50” to mark its collectible status as a limited version.

The refreshed Golf lineup, unveiled at the end of January 2024, introduces several design and technology updates compared with the pre-refresh version. Highlights include redesigned headlights, a revised front bumper, and an illuminated brand logo on the grille. Inside, a new display measures from 10.4 to 12.9 inches, depending on configuration, while the infotainment system gains integration with ChatGPT for more conversational driving assistance. A modern touch in the cabin is the replacement of tactile steering wheel buttons with more streamlined controls that simplify operation while maintaining familiar ergonomics.

For buyers seeking enhanced visibility and safety, optional IQ.Light matrix headlights are available at an additional cost. There is also a new option to control automatic parking remotely via a smartphone, offering convenience and ease of use in tight urban settings.

The updated Golf lineup provides nine engine options, including hybrid, gasoline turbocharged, and diesel turbo powerplants. This broad range allows buyers to choose a balance of efficiency, performance, and driving character that suits daily commuting as well as longer highway journeys.

In related automotive news, Lancia announced the launch of a new model after a 13-year hiatus, signaling renewed momentum in the European compact segment and underscoring the ongoing evolution of mainstream brands seeking to capture diverse customer needs across markets.
