Volgograd Pawnshop Owner Extradited from Paraguay Over Fraud Case
A pawnshop proprietor from Volgograd was located in Paraguay and subsequently extradited to Russia after a probe determined he had defrauded funds from two car owners. This information comes from the press service of the prosecutor’s office for the Volgograd region, which issued an official update on the case.
According to the review covering 2018 to 2019, documentation from the ministry states that Roman Morozov, who owned the Volgograd pawnshop, used the pretext of selling BMW X7 and GAZ vehicles toappropriately take money from the victims. The scheme involved obtaining money from individuals who believed they were engaging in legitimate car transactions, while Morozov allegedly exploited their trust for personal financial gain. The alleged fraud extended beyond vehicle sales and affected other dealings linked to the pawnshop’s operations.
In addition to the vehicle fraud, the authorities indicate that Morozov deprived certain residents of their right to housing. The total losses attributed to his actions exceeded 14.6 million rubles, a figure that underscores the severity of the alleged criminal activity and the impact on the victims involved. The case moved toward formal judicial review after the individual was detained abroad and later brought back to Russia for prosecution.
The extradition process concluded with Morozov’s transfer to the Volgograd Krasnoarmeysky District Court, where the criminal case related to fraud is being prepared for trial. The court is expected to determine the appropriate legal action based on the evidence collected during the investigation and the testimonies of the affected parties.
