The Volga Automobile Plant has announced that the Vesta family will no longer be produced in its traditional pre styling form. This transition was declared at an official level and marks a significant shift in the company’s production strategy. When production restarts in 2023, AVTOVAZ will roll out vehicles branded as Vesta NG immediately. Consequently, the familiar Vesta, as it has been known since 2015 in Izhevsk and Togliatti, will not be manufactured in the old guise any longer.
The message is clear that the old Vesta is being retired in favor of a new generation. The launch in Tolyatti is scheduled for early spring of the coming year, as reported by Rossiyskaya Gazeta through the communications director, Sergei Ilyinsky.
In its early days the Vesta carried a signature color called Lime, a distinctive touch that helped define the model. AVTOVAZ views the new generation as a restyled version rather than a completely new model. Known as Vesta NG, it was first presented to the public on February 22, 2022. At that time only the exterior design was shown, and the subsequent reveal of more details was delayed by events in late February. Approximately 800 commercial vehicles were assembled in Izhevsk, after which the assembly of Vesta NG moved to Togliatti on a more productive production line.
The update extends beyond the exterior to include interior redesigns and changes to comfort features. The full scope of these improvements will become clearer after the restart of production in Togliatti.
Looking ahead, the plan is to create a crossover built on the Lada Vesta platform and the B segment family. This new family will stand apart from the B segment sedan and station wagon, which will be sold alongside the Granta model. The entire lineup is expected to be on the assembly line in 2024 to 2025. The family would be developed on a fresh platform based on the CMF B architecture from France, and this platform will be finalized in due course, according to the company.
The press office head also indicated a longer horizon, extending toward 2030, describing a future where a completely new car could become the basis for an entire VAZ family. In the broader context of the company’s roadmap, this direction points toward a C class family that was previously hinted at by AVTOVAZ chairman Maxim Sokolov.
Further notes from the company emphasize that the long term plan includes a broader portfolio, with media coverage such as Odnoklassniki signaling additional insights into leadership commentary.
- The new family of vehicles suggests a broader shift toward a unified C class design that could underpin multiple models within the VAZ lineup.
- Latest updates from official communications channels continue to shape expectations about the company’s upcoming offerings.
