At the Expodrev exhibition in Krasnoyarsk, the Ural Automobile Plant showcased a promising Ural-4360 truck. August already saw the model at Army-2022, where factory teams gauged interest in the concept. Now the focus shifts to the serial version, as a cooperation agreement with the Federal Forestry Agency (Rosleskhoz) moves forward.
The Ural-4360 presents an ideologically lighter design, powered by a YaMZ-534 diesel four, replacing the V6 that typically powers the older Ural-43206. This mirrors the Army Ural-66 shown previously, but there are notable design differences that set the two apart.
The cab on the Ural-4360 is not unique but uses a serial Next variant, similar to cabs found on LAWNS, GAZelles, and URALs, now with its own upholstery. In overall length and wheelbase, the truck sits taller than last year’s sixty-six. The front suspension uses springs designed to smooth out the ride and reduce weight.
Ongoing development aims to reduce the frame weight further, a common goal shared with the civilian Ural-4360 and the military Ural-66. For propulsion, the truck will offer a manual gearbox as well as a new GAZ automatic transmission developed by the Gorky Automobile Plant. The payload capacity of the updated model stands at four tons.
- The option to replace the GAZ-66 is not the sole path forward; the recently introduced MZKT-450330 chassis is also being considered as an alternative.
- Insights and footage from the project can be found on RuTube as noted by observers of the program.
