The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant has not ruled out moving UAZ vehicles onto a new platform developed through a technology partnership, with the UAZ brand remaining under the Sollers umbrella. This approach signals a strategic shift aimed at sustaining brand loyalty while embracing innovative engineering.
Adil Shirinov, the chairman of Sollers, noted that there is room for a fresh platform for UAZ to be created under the group’s banner via a technological collaboration. He emphasized that the company has already begun moving in that direction, outlining a roadmap that blends established UAZ characteristics with modern engineering solutions.
Shirinov highlighted the core objective: assembling a new powertrain package that pairs a 2.0-liter diesel engine with a six-speed manual transmission. This bundle is intended to form the backbone of future UAZ-branded models, positioning the lineup for improved efficiency, performance, and reliability. The emphasis on this powertrain marks a pivotal step in aligning UAZ with contemporary automotive standards while preserving the brand identity that customers trust.
