The mayor of the capital envisions the factory as the core hub for building electric vehicles, a place where the necessary know-how and capabilities are already in place to drive this transformation forward.
In parallel, Moscow’s administration is speeding up the rollout of the charging network, laying down the groundwork for a more connected and convenient urban mobility landscape. The city is aligning infrastructure investments with a broader strategy to support electric fleets, residential charging, and business-to-customer charging services, ensuring that demand is matched with reliable, widely accessible power sources.
The plant has entered the active preparation phase for vehicle production, with teams coordinating site readiness, equipment installation, and rigorous testing regimes. This phase focuses on aligning manufacturing lines, quality control protocols, and supply chain readiness to support a staged production ramp, starting with a flexible approach that can adjust to evolving market needs and regulatory requirements.
Head of the facility, Dmitry Pronin, highlighted in a Telegram channel that the primary partner from KAMAZ will assist the plant with advanced technological solutions and marketing strategies. The collaboration will begin with SKD assembly of vehicles, enabling a quick entry into the market while leveraging the partner’s expertise. In the next stage, the project aims to pursue deeper localization of production, building an integrated ecosystem of domestic suppliers, engineering talent, and regional capabilities that reduce dependence on imported components.
This year, the plant is projected to assemble around 600 vehicles from kits, including about 200 electric cars, with a longer-term plan targeting up to 50,000 units annually in 2023, among which 10,000 to 20,000 could be electric versions. The broader objective remains to establish a new generation of affordable, safe, and practical electric city cars conceived from the ground up, designed to meet the daily needs of urban residents while delivering value through efficiency, reliability, and thoughtful design.
