To reduce the massive traffic congestion on the M-4 Don highway in the Rostov region, rescuers temporarily opened a gap in a fence, allowing vehicles to turn and proceed along the oncoming lane. Reports from Mash Don confirm this emergency measure, noting that at kilometer 986 the Ministry of Emergency Situations created a passage toward Moscow. Subscribers also reported that around kilometer 960, motorists were able to move calmly in the opposite direction as conditions permitted.

The heavy snowfall that intensified after the night of March 30 in the Rostov region has persisted, transforming into persistent snowfall that keeps impacting road conditions. On the M-4 Don highway, traffic jams stretched for kilometers, and a segment through the Kamensky district saw a complete standstill. Adverse weather and poor visibility prompted authorities to declare a state of emergency in five municipalities within the Rostov region to coordinate rescue and recovery efforts and safeguard road users.

Earlier updates described the deteriorating weather, with the Rostov governor Vasily Golubev stating via his Telegram channel that the traffic jam on the M-4 Don highway had eased by about 30 percent, shrinking from a 60-kilometer bottleneck to roughly 39 kilometers. The response involved 181 personnel and 111 units of equipment dedicated to clearing the disruption and supporting stranded motorists and responders alike. The overall operation remained focused on stabilizing traffic flow, ensuring traveler safety, and assessing ongoing weather patterns to inform further containment measures.
