In a move affecting the Russian assets of the Japanese automaker Toyota, the company has decided to transfer its holdings in Russia to FSUE NAMI, a state enterprise under the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Denis Manturov, head of the department, confirmed that the transfer process has begun and that preparatory steps are already in progress to implement the plan.

The Toyota plant in St. Petersburg, which began production in 2007, has remained idle while these negotiations unfold. Authorities anticipate that the land and facilities not currently in use will be handed over to the city, paving the way for the development of an industrial park designed to stimulate local economic activity and attract related manufacturing ventures in the future.

As of January 2023, Toyota Motor completed a workforce reduction at the plant, leaving 277 employees on the payroll, with 76 workers still assigned to the St. Petersburg facility. These changes occurred amid broader corporate restructuring and adaptation to the evolving market environment in the region.

Earlier, assets from the Nissan plant in St. Petersburg were transferred to FSUE NAMI. Following that transfer, AvtoVAZ announced plans to take over production at the site and to manufacture vehicles under the Lada brand, signaling a shift in the regional auto-manufacturing landscape and potential realignment of production capacities.
