Toyota has rolled out an updated version of the Corolla Cross crossover, with Auto Review noting the debut took place in Thailand. The latest model carries a sharper look thanks to a refreshed radiator grille, redesigned taillights, and a set of 18-inch wheel designs that give it a more muscular stance compared to its predecessor. Inside, the front panel features a larger multimedia system—a 10.1-inch tablet screen that replaces the previous nine-inch unit. The base variant now includes a seven-inch display, and buyers can opt for a panoramic roof that opens quietly with electric curtains, adding a sense of airiness to the cabin. Upholstery choices have expanded to two color schemes: deep black and striking red accents.
Under the hood, the Corolla Cross offers a 1.8-liter gasoline engine producing around 140 hp, paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) for smooth, efficient driving. A hybrid version is also available, delivering about 122 hp while prioritizing fuel economy and reduced emissions. These powertrains sit on the GA-C modular platform, the same underpinnings used by the Corolla sedan and the C-HR crossover, among others in Toyota’s lineup. The car’s dimensions place it at approximately 4460 mm in length, 1825 mm in width, and 1620 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2640 mm, contributing to a balanced footprint and usable interior space.
Separately in automotive news, Iranian automaker Iran Khodro (IKCO) has begun production of the new Reera crossover at its Tehran facility. The Reera is equipped with a 1.7-liter gasoline engine delivering about 160 hp, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. While early test samples are rolling off the assembly line, mass production is targeted to start in May 2024, signaling IKCO’s push to expand its portfolio with a compact crossover that competes in a crowded segment. The development reflects Iran’s ongoing efforts to bolster domestic manufacturing and export potential for newer crossover designs.
Additionally, there have been reports that GAC will introduce a new large minivan to the Russian market. While detailed specifications and timing remain to be confirmed, the pending arrival aligns with GAC’s broader strategy to broaden its family-vehicle offerings in key regional markets, complementing its existing lineup that already spans compact sedans, crossovers, and MPVs. The evolving landscape of midsize and larger family vehicles in these regions underscores a growing emphasis on practical space, comfort, and modern infotainment for diverse driving needs.
