Tesla Model Y took the top spot in global vehicle sales by the end of 2023, overtaking the long-time leader Toyota Corolla who had led the world for two decades, according to analysis from Avtostat.

In 2023, the Model Y posted a 51 percent jump in sales, reaching about 1.15 million units. This growth helped the electric crossover climb three positions in the yearly ranking of best-selling models. The Corolla, which had dominance for twenty years, settled in second place with roughly 1.13 million units sold worldwide. Close behind was the Toyota RAV4, with around 934,900 sales globally in the year.

In North America, the Ford F-Series pickup continued its strong performance, securing fourth place with approximately 901,600 units sold. Rounding out the top models in the region were the Honda CR-V, Chevrolet Silverado, and Toyota Camry, each maintaining a significant market presence across major countries.

Meanwhile, the market noted an ongoing cadence of new releases and model year updates from various manufacturers. Reports indicated that vehicles manufactured in 2024 were beginning to arrive through Russian dealerships, signaling evolving supply dynamics and potential shifts in regional demand as manufacturers adjust to new product cycles.
